Bathroom Sink Cabinet Storage Ideas
7 bathroom sink cabinet ideas to maximise under sink storage
Great bathroom design incorporates plenty of personality and quite a few practical elements, too. The bathroom is a place where you'll want to while away the hours, so it makes sense to make it comfortable, accessible, and stylish. And if you get it right, the bathroom will no doubt become your new favourite room in the house (it's certainly ours!)
In this blog, we look at bathroom sink cabinet ideas, but from a space-saving perspective. Whether your bathroom is large or small, it's important to put the space you've got to good use. We'll look at various storage options to give you some inspiration, and we'll also look at what other touches you can incorporate to really make the room your own.
What do bathroom sink cabinets look like?
There are lots of different styles of cabinet, such as floating ones, ones built around the sink and larger pieces that more resemble a vanity unit. Each does storage in a slightly different way – it's up to you which works best in your scheme.
How can they be used to get extra storage space?
While some types of unit are simple – cupboards, shelves or drawers, for example, others use nifty tricks to maximise storage space. In our blog, we'll go over some of these clever bathroom sink cabinet ideas.
What options are there?
We've chosen seven distinctly different types of unit, each offering something different.
1) The his & hers unit

A great option for larger bathrooms and for couples, especially when they need to get ready at the same time, the his & hers (or his & his, or hers & hers) gives you your own space in the bathroom and packs plenty of storage. Here, the set-up features a towel rail, cupboards and drawers, and floating storage, so there are plenty of options to choose from. And if you're not the matchy-matchy type, you can make the look quirky by using different mirrors, lighting or tap fixture on each side.
2) The compact corner unit

For bathrooms where space is at a premium, you can still introduce a sink – complete with storage – by building in the corner of the room. These options each have a different spin on compact corner storage, with shelving that covers both sharp angles and sweeping curves; a floating, triangular design with cupboard space; and a more geometric shape that combines a drawer and cupboard. Some of these designs even have a clever mirror built into the corner, too – the angled shelf set-up does this particularly well, as it feels quirky and ownable, while the use of a spotlight in another helps the light go further and gives the room a warm, cosy glow.
3) The DIY unit

This approach gives you lots of options for storage. Your under-sink space might fit some small sets of drawers, you might opt to build a rail for shelves that slide in and out, or you could screw some caddies onto the door for quick access. If you're not too handy with tools, you could opt for a bought piece of furniture that's cut around the sink, which gives you in-built shelving – perfect for those pedestal designs. The great thing about the DIY style is that even if you buy cabinetry that already comes with drawers or shelves, you can still upcycle it with these simple tricks, which give you quick and easy organisation.
4) The pantry-style unit

These options unashamedly borrow from clever kitchens, and why not? Sliding sections make it easy to see your soaps at a glance, and pick out what you need with ease. The bathroom bin can be secretly tucked inside a cupboard, brought out on a sliding arm for use, and as we've seen in the DIY unit, the addition of a shelving caddy on the inside of a cupboard door makes for even more space-saving.
5) The floating unit
(Source,source, andsource )
There are lots of ultra-modern floating bathroom sink cabinet ideas, and ideas for storage. Whether you opt for the furniture to be floating, like this walnut-coloured cabinet, or you prefer to just have the sink floating, like this neutral bathroom with the cradle towel storage, there's something for every scheme. Our favourite has to be the floating sink with the shelf – it almost doesn't look like it's floating at all – but the his & hers option with the in-built drawers feels particularly spacious.
6) The under-rail unit

One of the questions many people have when it comes to bathroom design is where to hang the hand towel. These options show you different ways to incorporate your hand towel – especially when adding colour is important to your scheme. From a simple side-rail or under-unit rail, to stands with shelving, it's a simple storage solution that won't take the focus away from the rest of the room. Of course, if you prefer to hide your towels away, use a stand with shelving and tuck them into a basket. We love the natural-looking baskets on the black metal one pictured.
7) The vanity-style unit

If it wasn't for the inclusion of a sink, there'd be little way of knowing that these beautiful pieces of furniture were bathroom sink cabinets. The inclusion of a large, ornate mirror hung close to the unit is the strongest visual cue that these are vanities, while built-up cupboards that frame either side of the mirror give a nod to built-in bedroom furniture – the type of room where you'd typically see this style. Another hallmark of the vanity-style sink is the use of lighting – notice how two of our image spots use two lights, again on either side of the mirror. The result is a cosy yet luxurious feel, creating a space that invites you to pamper and relax.
A few other ideas for your storage

If your style is more quirky, you'll love these interesting bathroom sink cabinet ideas. First up is the in-built toilet brush and paper holder, which is perfect for small-scale apartment living; next is a gorgeous DIY addition, which nods to the utility room by using a curtain to hide your under-sink area; and last but not least, borrowed from the kitchen itself comes this cute, cut-out cat door – a lovely idea for feline friends who like to curl up in warm places.
Extra touches to finish the look
Now that you've had some inspiration for bathroom sink cabinet ideas, it's worth thinking about those lovely finishes that will add that little bit extra to your scheme, like sophistication, warmth or personality. Of course, we still have a few more tricks up our sleeves for getting in a bit more storage.
Baskets
These are a great way to keep your space organised, whether you want to show them off on shelving or hide them behind cupboard doors. Natural materials like wicker, wood, hemp and hessian seem most at home in a bathroom setting, but for a more utility-style look, try wire or metal
Hooks
The addition of hooks makes for even more ways to store and arrange your things. You can even attach hooks to the side of your furniture, or add them into cupboards to hold items like shower gel or flannels
Lighting
Not only does lighting illuminate your bathroom, but different styles of lighting can amp up your look. Spotlights are perfect in low-ceiling, basement bathrooms, but if you have a larger room, why not celebrate the space with a chandelier design?
Taps
Consider the finish of the taps. Classic steel or silver-coloured taps will suit almost any space, or you can make a statement with bright gold or black carbon. The shape is also important – like slim or waterfall – and it's worth thinking about whether you want individual pillar taps or a more modern mixer style
Sink
From the butcher's sink commonly used in kitchens to the elegant bowl shape, in-built to add-on, ceramic to glass, there are lots of considerations for your new bathroom sink
Mirror
The best place for a mirror in any bathroom is right above the sink, but it can depend on the layout of your room. If your unit sits right below a window, a pedestal mirror is a great option – and some even come with a magnified size for your beauty or grooming routine. Another great option is an LED mirror, with some even available in a cupboard design that just adds to your storage
Towels
The simplest way to make a space feel like new and brilliant for adding colour to your bathroom. Try layering different colours on shelves for added interest
